West Coast Sales Representative  

Department: Sales & Marketing
Reports to: Director of R&D and Business Development

Position Summary

Will achieve maximum sales profitability and growth within the assigned territory and/or market segment by effectively selling National Flavors’ products and services. Work requires substantial knowledge of product line as well as industries we serve.

Essential Job Functions

  • Contact regular and prospective customers to promote, sell, and secure new projects utilizing a relationship-based approach.
  • Answer prospective and existing customers’ questions about products and applications, prices, and availability.
  • Create quotations and negotiate pricing and credit or contract terms for prospective and existing customers which meets specific customer needs.
  • Demonstrate electronic tools to customers for ease of sample ordering and regulatory documentation.
  • Follow-up with customers after receipt of product samples and information.
  • Coordinate with the R&D department when duplication or new development is appropriate.
  • Consult with customers after sales to resolve issues and provide ongoing support.
  • Identify and obtain new customers through direct marketing, cold calling, business directories, customer referrals, participating in organizations and clubs, and attending trade shows and conferences.
  • Monitor market conditions, product innovations, and competitors’ products, prices and sales.
  • Manage customer accounts by forecasting requirements, preparing budgets, analyzing purchasing variances, and scheduling travel.
  • Perform administrative duties such as establishing short- and long-term growth plans for the territory, and filing expense account reimbursement requests.
  • Enhance industry knowledge by attending educational seminars, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

Minimum requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Work Experience: 5+ years’ experience in a sales role preferred. Experience in building sales territories, making customer presentations, obtaining new customers, conducting market research, setting and meeting sales goals, and building authentic professional relationships would be ideal.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in the food industry
  • Travel Requirement: 50-75% must reside on west coast
  • Territory: West of the Rocky Mountains
