West Coast Sales Representative  

Department: Sales & Marketing
Reports to: Director of R&D and Business Development

Position Summary

Will achieve maximum sales profitability and growth within the assigned territory and/or market segment by effectively selling National Flavors’ products and services. Work requires substantial knowledge of product line as well as industries we serve.

Essential Job Functions

  • Contact regular and prospective customers to promote, sell, and secure new projects utilizing a relationship-based approach.
  • Answer prospective and existing customers’ questions about products and applications, prices, and availability.
  • Create quotations and negotiate pricing and credit or contract terms for prospective and existing customers which meets specific customer needs.
  • Demonstrate electronic tools to customers for ease of sample ordering and regulatory documentation.
  • Follow-up with customers after receipt of product samples and information.
  • Coordinate with the R&D department when duplication or new development is appropriate.
  • Consult with customers after sales to resolve issues and provide ongoing support.
  • Identify and obtain new customers through direct marketing, cold calling, business directories, customer referrals, participating in organizations and clubs, and attending trade shows and conferences.
  • Monitor market conditions, product innovations, and competitors’ products, prices and sales.
  • Manage customer accounts by forecasting requirements, preparing budgets, analyzing purchasing variances, and scheduling travel.
  • Perform administrative duties such as establishing short- and long-term growth plans for the territory, and filing expense account reimbursement requests.
  • Enhance industry knowledge by attending educational seminars, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

Minimum requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Work Experience: 5+ years’ experience in a sales role preferred. Experience in building sales territories, making customer presentations, obtaining new customers, conducting market research, setting and meeting sales goals, and building authentic professional relationships would be ideal.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in the food industry
  • Travel Requirement: 50-75% must reside on west coast
  • Territory: West of the Rocky Mountains

Packaging Associate (Full-time)

Position Summary

Sets up and operates their workstation in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Reads and interprets computer specifications/instructions to select the correct equipment and packaging materials for the product. Fills, secures, and labels containers according to company and/or customer specifications in a quick and accurate fashion. Verifies goods packaged against order information on tablet and delivers the packaged product to the appropriate area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within a food packaging industry. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.

  • Operate machinery used in the packaging process, or assist other compounders or packagers.
  • Observe equipment operations so that malfunctions can be detected, and notify management of any malfunctions.
  • Pack products in boxes, pails, or drums as instructed in a timely manner with accuracy.
  • Verify label accuracy and apply labels to the correct product and container.
  • Lift finished products and packed items, manually or using hoists.
  • Count finished products to determine if product orders are complete.
  • Maintain clean/safe work areas, machines, equipment, and product packaging according to safety and SQF standards (proper GMP’s and sanitary procedures).

Non-Essential Job Functions

  • Replenish supplies as needed.
  • Share duties of disposing of office trash and recyclables and restocking supplies in the restroom, break room areas and on the production floor.

Minimum requirements

  • Education: High school diploma (or GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area
  • Industry Knowledge: Food manufacturing or packaging experience helpful, but not required
